Unlike the previous version, this one is not as interesting as it claims to be. Whoever claims to have never heard of or watched at least one episode of CSI: Miami is a liar for this is one of the more interesting shows on TV today.
It is so popular that no matter where the location changes and the characters changed, this is one of the highly rated shows on the planet today. So who would have thought that the PC game version would fail? Well, it did not, for the first version, but the second version does fall into this category. Why? LetÂ’s try to find out.
The Good: David Caruso is here, thank you for that, and then there is the expected great music selections and the great sound effects. Again, the character models are well done, and did I mention David Caruso?
The Bad: Well the voice acting surprised, and not in a good way. The game is too easy, something which is not to be expected from a CSI anything. The mysteries are elementary, even Dr. Watson could solve them without his partner Sherlock. The game play is inconsistent and it is short, only five hours long. Wait, I think I better transfer that over to The Good.
The CSI Miami is one of the best developed franchise for television and it is thanks to the imaginative writers that it made it to the computer games. But somewhere along the line, I donÂ’t think the successful writers were even consulted in this new version. Somehow, I think they had been ignored, thinking that they could be ignored and this is what made this version fail, badly.
The set up is basically the same, David Caruso is here. The usual tyro character is introduced. Then there are the mysteries, five in all, that are introduced and have to be solved CSI and Caruso style. After this, it just falls apart. There are none of the compelling tools to help solve the mysteries. All the tools are basically the same. It feels like a copycat game.
In the CSI plot, the storyline progresses and peaks when it gets solved. But here, it does not. There is a whole lot of problem storyline-wise and it is disturbing. CSI fans are sure to recognize that somehow the complexities had been set aside in favor of the simple and mundane. Sometimes the game lags, I still canÂ’t really figure out why. In short, this is a sloppily done CSI game that makes me think of really uncharitable words right now.
Ultimately, CSI: Miami really disappointed me. The only reason why I stuck it out was because of David Caruso, without him, I donÂ’t think I would have lasted as long as I did. And still, he was not enough to save this sorry game. I am a big fan of the franchise and to say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly. It became too rudimentary and unchallenging in the end that I had to drag myself to finish it. When I finally did, well, I wonÂ’t be uncharitable anymore.
